Weather Friends is a live weather background that runs in any browser. The sky over each city follows the real weather, minute by minute: clouds, rain, snow, fog, wind, sunrise, sunset and the stars at night. It is free, and there is nothing to install.

Each city has its own painted view and its own live weather. Pick the one you want behind your work:
Each sky checks for new weather every few minutes. If it starts to rain in Vancouver, it rains in the Vancouver sky. At night the city lights come on and the stars come out.
How to use it as a background on PC and Mac
The simplest way is a full-screen browser window on a second screen or behind your other windows. Open a city sky, then make the browser full screen: press F11 on Windows, or Control-Command-F on a Mac.
To make it your real desktop wallpaper, use a free app that shows a web page as the wallpaper. On Windows, Lively Wallpaper can show any web address as an animated wallpaper. On a Mac, Plash does the same. Paste the address of your city sky, for example weatherfriends.live/vancouver, into the app.
A live background uses a little power, the same as a web page that stays open. On a laptop, use it while plugged in.
How to get live weather on your home screen
On a phone, open the city sky in your browser and add it to your home screen. On an iPhone, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. On Android, open the browser menu and tap Add to Home screen. The icon opens the live sky straight away.

Phones do not let a web page run as the lock screen or home screen wallpaper. The home screen icon above is the closest match: one tap opens the live sky full screen. It works well on a phone stand or an old tablet next to your desk.
What makes it different from a weather wallpaper app
Each city is one hand-painted view, and the light, the clouds and the weather change smoothly with the real conditions. The seasons change too: green leaves in summer, fall colour, bare trees and snow. A small weather friend visits the corner while its weather lasts, and lofi music follows the sky if you want it.

Do I need an app?
No. The live weather background runs in any modern browser on a computer, tablet or phone. A wallpaper app such as Lively Wallpaper or Plash is only needed if you want it as your real desktop wallpaper.
Does it change with the weather?
Yes. Each city sky follows live weather data for that city and checks for new weather every few minutes.
Can I pick my own city?
Pick one of the seven city skies: Edmonton, Vancouver, Kitchener BC, Nanaimo, Toronto, New York and Tokyo. More cities are coming.
