Moving lofi backgrounds with real weather
A lofi background is a calm, cozy scene that sits behind your work or your music. Weather Friends makes moving lofi backgrounds from painted city views, and the weather in each one is real.
What is a lofi background?
A lofi background is a soft, warm picture or loop that goes with lofi music: a rainy window, a quiet city at night, a desk with a lamp. People use them as desktop wallpaper, behind a study session, or behind a music stream. Most lofi backgrounds are still pictures or short loops that repeat.
Weather Friends scenes do not loop. Each one is a painted city view where the sky follows the real weather, so the scene is a little different every time you look.
Lofi background video for your desktop
Open a city sky and make the browser full screen with F11 on Windows or Control-Command-F on a Mac. To set it as your real wallpaper, put the city address into a web wallpaper app: Lively Wallpaper on Windows or Plash on a Mac.
Rainy, snowy and sunny lofi scenes
The weather in each scene is the real weather in that city now. Vancouver and Nanaimo are often rainy in fall and winter. Edmonton gets snow, and on clear winter nights the northern lights can show. Tokyo has cherry blossom in spring and Mount Fuji with its snow cap. In New York and Toronto the tower windows light up at dusk. To find rain right now, see rainy lofi.
Lofi background music
Every scene has its own lofi music, and the music follows the weather: softer piano in the rain, warmer tunes on a clear day, and quieter songs at night. Tap or click the sky to start it. Code plays the music live, so it never repeats the same way twice.
Use it for streams and study sessions
A live scene behind a study session gives your eyes somewhere calm to rest. Streamers can show a city sky as a browser source. The scenes run all day without a loop point or a cut.
The lofi aesthetic
The lofi aesthetic is soft colour, warm light and quiet places: a city at dusk, rain on a window, lamps coming on, a sky going from gold to deep blue. It borrows from anime backgrounds and old film. The Weather Friends cities are painted in that style, from real photos of each view, and the real time of day sets the light. Sunrise is pink and gold, the evening turns blue, and after dark the windows glow. Each scene shows a friendly weather character too, a small creature made of its own weather that drifts into the corner.
